About Me

I am 21 years of age, currently based in the North. Having lived in Blackpool until the age of 18, then moving away to Hull where I am currently situated.

Having spent most of my schooling career being infatuated with theatre and the arts I moved onto The University of Hull to pursue a career in the arts. After many years refining my skills in the areas of sound design, radio production, lighting design and stage management I left my final year of University with an upper second class honours.

Kicking on from this I am currently studying at Theatre Making an MA level, throughout which I have been  gaining a sound academic knowledge of Theatre making practices, and the theory that goes hand in hand with the creation of art.

The vast majority of my design work in the past has involved the creation of collaborative audio plays and podcast’s working with other students. My current projects include the creation of an adaptation of a family story, which I am working with my Gran, who authored the book.

I have experience in designing Sound and Lighting for theatre, both internal and external to university, my sound design work often involves the creation of effects through foley sound or the exploitation of surround sound and binaural sound design.

Binaural sound design is one of my main interests and an avenue which I intend to explore fully on the completion of my study’s.

Over the past two years I have worked at the Edinburgh Fringe festival, going with four productions from the same theatre company, as Lighting designer and operator in 2015. Then for the 2016 Fringe I worked as a venue technician for Pleasance Theatre, working in the Pleasance Above theatre which is part of the Pleasance Courtyard venue.

Alongside this my Career history has seen me work as a venue technician and operator in a nightclub, setting up for bands and other music related performance as well as freelancer in a variety of fields within the industry as both a technician and a designer.

My Creative Practice

I am a theatre maker and  artist primarily interested with sound design and all things audio, be it audio book, audioplay, sonic journey the list really does go on…

I work primarily in theatre settings, and prefer to take a collaborative approach to create work, and enjoy informing my work with elements of storytelling, often mixed with a splashing of physical theatre. This I think comes from my interest in other theatre practioners, such as Simon Mcburney (founder/artistic director of Complicité). For my creation of mediatized theatre (the creation of theatre which takes form in the digital world) I take much of my inspiration from Film maker Casey Neistat, his work seems to me to flow in such a fantastic and thought provoking way, that I feel can be harnessed  and used by a theatre maker to make their performances great, he also has a saying when concerning film making that I like to extrapolate to cover all of my intentions,
“The story is alway king.”

My pieces of recorded theatre, and radio production I feel are my most creative pieces of work, I have had to teach myself all the skills i have when recording, editing and mastering my audiowork, and this is why some of it can be hard to follow, however this is a constant learning progress and I often go back to older pieces of work and re-master, re-arrange and try to better my work as I continue to hone my skills.
